Student Choreography Program
create. share. respond.
Join Connection Dance Works for an online workshop and creation process for student choreographers, ages 14-18 years old.
Led by Artistic Director Sarah Power, students will participate in a 3-part dance creation workshop, which will result in a LIVE performance at Connection Dance Works’ PERSPECTIVE, an evening of dance and discussion, on December 4.
The concept for the piece is based the word: Perspective (outlook, view, point of view) and will structurally work with the number 10, after CDW’s 10 seasons of PERSPECTIVE works-in-progress shows.
How does it work?
Students who are interested in participating can fill out the application HERE.
Please read the description and the commitment required prior to filling out the application. You will be required to be present for 3 online sessions, 1 in-person rehearsal and 1 performance.
After you submit your application, you will receive a video explaining the details, a list of the creative tasks and a schedule for the online sharing sessions.
You’ll be led through discussions and structured improvisations to create your own individual movement phrases that will be used in the final performance. The work will be performed live, as well as filmed. You’ll be asked to create short phrases from the concept and discussions and that use the structured improvisation idea from that session.
This is a great opportunity to create dance using online technology and see it come to life in a live performance! You’ll also get to create and dance with local students in a professional show, getting a look into the professional world of contemporary dance!
In the best interest of all involved in the project, we require all performers to be fully vaccinated.
Covid protocols will be followed.
