Connection Dance Works is pleased to present the 9th annual Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival, which takes place July 20-24, 2020. This year’s festival will be significantly different from previous versions; because of the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions on gatherings, the festival will be presented in an entirely digital format.

Audiences will still get to experience many familiar festival elements, including site-specific performances and a focus on local dance professionals and emerging young artists. This year, however, the festival will not include a ticketed main stage performance. To help cover the loss of ticket revenue, online donations will be accepted from those who wish to support the company. E-transfers are accepted at  connectiondanceworks@gmail.com or send an email to discuss other options.

2020 Festival Format

Site-Specific Virtual & Main Stage Performances

Films have been commissioned from four professional dance artists based out of Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton. These works were inspired by the natural beauty of their surroundings. The films will initially be screened at four storefront windows in uptown Saint John and will then be presented in “main stage” online event on July 23 at 8:00pm. Stream available through YouTube.

Spotlight Artists

Two local professional dance artists' short videos will be featured on Connection Dance Works social media channels for a day.

Emerging Youth Artists

These up-and-coming choreographers are students and recent graduates. Each has submitted a short dance film which will be presented throughout the week.

Saint John Community Movement Project

Connection Dance Works issued a call for members of the public to submit short video clips of movement and dance that were edited together to the soundtrack of “Never Knowing” by Ladd & Lasses.
