Connection Dance Works

CDW provides opportunities for artists to share knowledge and learn from each other through its PERSPECTIVE series and annual Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival. The company has established itself as an educational forum for audiences and students alike, offering workshops, artist talks and professional development for both local and visiting artists. Connection Dance Works has worked with Julia Aplin, Marie-Josée Chartier, Tedi Tafel, Meagan O’Shae, and Darryl Tracy.

Kathleen Doherty

Kathleen Doherty

Kathleen Doherty (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax. After completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Kathleen moved to Calgary to attend Decidedly Jazz Danceworks’ Professional Training Program. Upon returning to Halifax in 2012, Kathleen co-founded Votive Dance, and has worked as Artistic Director since the company its inception.

Oriah Wiersma

Oriah Wiersma

Oriah Wiersma is a choreographer, dance artist, and Craniosacral Therapist. Her passion as an artist comes from discoveries of the physical form, connection, and community. She works in collaboration with musicians regularly drawing on her early training. She worked with bands ZINNIA, Porch Couch, and Ptarmigan - choreographing for music videos and performing at Pop Montreal, the Basement Review Series, and ArtsWells festival in BC.

Gina Grant

Gina Grant

Gina is a contemporary dancer, teacher & choreographer based in Saint John. She completed her dance training with l'école de danse contemporaine de Montréal en 2017.Gina participated in CDW's "New Music, New Dance" Residency and performed her first solo work "The same, but not like before" at the 12th annual SJ Contemporary Dance Festival. She also had the pleasure of being featured in Created Here Magazine,19th Issue, Created Here - Bodies. Gina collaborates frequently with Naomi Peters.

Fátima López

Fátima López

For the past ten years Fatima has had a great passion for dancing, everything started with a class at elementary school, she used to perform with a small group of dancers mainly lyrical jazz; assisting to a few dance competitions back home, Mexico. At the age of twelve, she started getting more involved, discovering ballet and contemporary dance. She kept training doing RAD ballet examinations for a few years and going to UPA a national dance competition in Rivera Maya, Mexico.
